Survimate Filtered Water Bottle Review

One of the biggest problems when looking for a portable water filter is that there are many of them and these items are designed for a lot of different purposes.

Here is one that is made to enhance small amounts of water when no clean water sources are close by.

It’s one of the highest-rated products on our list of portable water filters.

That’s why I decided to put my many years of water filtration experience to use and do a comprehensive Survimate Filtered Water Bottle review.

In this review, I will mention the pros and cons of this product, point out what I feel are its outstanding features, and even go over with you what other users think about it.

After all of that, you should have a pretty good idea if you are interested in this particular portable water filter or not.

Overview of Survimate Bottle

Survimate Bottle

This is one of the more popular straw-type portable water filters that you will find. It’s made by Survimate which is a company that only specializes in water filters for outdoor use and related support products.

It’s made to filter a large variety of water types. This includes tap water, well water, captured rainwater, spring-sourced water, groundwater, and most water that comes from rivers, streams, and lakes.

As long as the water source is not salty or has too much color in it, this portable water filter will enhance it enough to safely drink. This is especially true when it comes to keeping harmful bacteria out of the water that you drink.

The fact that it’s highly portable makes it a great item to take along with you when you are outdoors adventuring, hiking, camping, and trekking or you simply want to have it on hand for emergencies or survival purposes.

It’s even small and light enough to carry around for daily use.

Pros:

  • 1-year/330-gallon filter life
  • 4-stage filtration
  • 1-micron sediment filtration
  • Lightweight at less than ½ pound
  • Made using food-grade, BPA-free material
  • Comes in 8 different color choices
  • Affordably priced
  • Leak proof design
  • Break-resistant
  • 30-days free return policy

Cons:

  • Small 20-ounce capacity
  • Takes a little force to pull water through the straw
  • Expensive replacement filters
  • Cleaning requires blowing back through the straw
  • Does not work with heavily pigmented or saltwater

What to Consider Before Buying a Portable Filter

Finding the right portable water filter for your needs may not be as simple as you think. These items are small but there is much to consider about them before making a purchase. Here are the main traits of portable water filters to look at closely when shopping for one:

  1. Size of the unit
  2. The weight of the portable filter
  3. Ease of packing
  4. How easy is it to set up and use?
  5. How much does it cost?
  6. Filtration rate
  7. Intended purpose
  8. How much enhanced water does it hold?
  9. Does it need replacement filters?
  10. Filter useful life
  11. Does it have 3rd party certifications (ANSI, WQA, NSF)?

Main Features and Benefits of the Survimate Filtered Water Bottle

After taking a closer look at this water filtration product. Here are some of the features that really impressed me:

Impactful 4-Stage Filtration

This is one of the reasons that this product made our list of the best portable water filters. Much thought went into the design of its 4-stage water filtration setup.

It may be a smaller-sized unit, but inside its filter cartridge are medical-grade PP cotton, coconut shell activated carbon filter media, ionization beads, and a medical-grade hollow fiber membrane.

Chart

How effective is its 4-stage filtration? To start with, it filters up to 99.99% of such harmful bacteria like E. coli.

This is a very good thing because bacteria are commonly found in most water sources and can severely impact your health in some circumstances.

In addition to that, the Survimate Filtered Water Bottle reduces or removes heavy metal ions, a significant amount of chlorine, and other organic contaminants. Its 1-micron sediment filtration is also very effective.

Extremely Portable and Compact

This product’s fairly small size means that it can easily be used for a wide variety of remote and specialty water filtration purposes.

It only measures 9.4” x 3.1” x 3.1”. That’s small enough to even fit in an oversized pocket on your cargo pants or shorts.

Adding to its portability is its very light weight. It weighs less than ½ pound empty. That means it’s no burden to take with you when bike riding, hiking, camping, or when carrying in a small backpack or purse for everyday use.

1-Year/330-Gallon Filter Life

For as small as the Survimate Filtered Water Bottle is, it really has a very impressive filter life. The manufacturer states that it can last up to 1-year

This then becomes a portable water filter that you can use some 1300 times before you have to worry about changing out its overpriced replacement filters.

Survimate Filtered Water Bottle

Durable Product

You don’t want a portable water filter that is meant to be taken everywhere to be fragile. With this one, you certainly do not have to worry about that.

It’s made of BPA-free Tritan and other types of strong ABS that give a little when impacted.

Because it’s made using these types of materials, it’s more likely to bounce a little when dropped than crack or break. It also has a reliable leak proof design.

Social Proof & Review Consensus

Here is what those that have purchased and used this product had to say about it.

Those that rated it very highly (the majority of respondents) mentioned that they liked the taste of the enhanced water it produces and how portable and lightweight it is.

Purchasers also pointed out how easy it is to use compared to hand-pumped filtration systems they previously used.

Drawbacks most often brought up include how hard it was to pull water through the filter media when using it and others felt the filter media useful life was not as long as suggested.

Some also complained that the cost of the replacement filters is almost the same price as the entire unit.

Survimate Filtered Water Bottle Wrap Up

I like almost every aspect of this product but the few I don’t like give me some concerns.

To start with, I think its 4-stage filtration reduces or removes an impressive amount of water contaminants.

Among these are bacteria which is the most important contaminant to remove from untreated water sources.

It’s also compact and durable which is ideal for the types of outdoor enthusiasts and other users that would most likely purchase it.

What I don’t like is that it can be a little hard to pull water from its straw and then you have to reverse this process (blow into the straw) to keep its filter media clean.

I also think that the price of the Survimate Filtered Water Bottle’s replacement filters is absurd in relation to its initial purchase price.

Overall, I believe it’s a product that is worth having if you are going to be far from a freshwater source and won’t have a vehicle with supplies anywhere near you.

It’s also not a bad idea to have it on you every day in case you come across a drinking water source that you don’t trust.

Its 30-day return guarantee should also give those that buy it some nice peace of mind.
