You may never have heard of Eemax, but it is actually an important name in water heaters.

The company designs its water heaters to effectively provide hot water to customers in all climates without problems with reliability. It does this by focusing on innovative technology to supply instantaneous hot water at a continuous flow rate and temperature.

About Eemax

Established in 1988, Eemax immediately began manufacturing just tankless water heaters. These first water heaters were for commercial use only. At this time, it was only possible to gain a flow rate of between 0.5 and 1.5 GPM, but over time, the company began creating more powerful models.

In 2000, Eemax added residential heaters to its product line. This allowed homeowners, in addition to businesses, to benefit from the company’s patented technology.

In 2013, the company acquired EcoSmart, another producer of electric water heaters. Two years later, Rheem acquired Eemax. As Rheem specializes in gas water heaters, this acquisition increased its product range to include some of the best electric water heaters available.

The water heaters from Eemax are more precise, faster, and safer than many of the models from competing brands. This is in part due to direct heating technology that Eemax has developed. The heater stops warming water as soon as you turn off the faucet and the unit cools fast — to both reduce overshoot and minimize the amount of wasted energy.

The heaters also save money on operating costs thanks to their 99-percent energy efficiency. They achieve such efficiency due to the fact that almost all power goes to heating water. Plus, the instantaneous heating means that there is no standby heat loss.

Where Are Eemax Water Heaters Made?

Eemax water heaters have always been manufactured in Connecticut. Although Rheem heaters are made in Alabama, as well as in Mexico, China, and Australia, there are no plans to move manufacturing of Eemax heaters to these plants.

Types of Eemax Water Heaters

Despite being owned by Rheem, Eemax still only manufacturers electric water heaters. As these are less powerful than their gas counterparts, they are mostly suited for small to average-size homes or as point-of-use heaters in large homes. They are also useful as boosters, supporting the main water heater when hot water needs are particularly high.

Although Eemax manufacturers several different series of tankless water heaters, many of these are for light commercial, heavy commercial, or industrial use. The HomeAdvantage II is the only series of tankless water heater for residential use. Homeowners can also choose models in the Mini Tank range — these are tank water heaters that only hold a few gallons of water.

Eemax Tankless Water Heater Reviews from Consumers

Most consumers who purchase an Eemax water heater report being content with their decision. They suffer from no issues with the heater for the first several years (or more), purchase costs are low, and the heater rarely requires maintenance beyond the regular checkups.

A top selling point of Eemax tankless heaters is their appearance. All those in the HomeAdvantage II series are sleek and modern. In fact, they are designed for indoor use where they can be seen, such as next to a cabinet or on a wall. The stainless steel casing is attractive both in bathrooms and kitchens. Plus, it protects the heater from damage, further extending its lifespan.

In addition to appearance, you have the small size of the heaters, even in the powerful models. This makes them more versatile and easy to install.

Finally, you have the valuable technological features, like advanced water control, computer logic controls, and temperature sensors. These aspects are what provide modulation to keep water temperature constant and prevent fluctuations in flow rate. It also eliminates the phenomenon known as cold water sandwich, which is particularly unpleasant while showering.

Customer Service For Eemax Heaters

Eemax offers customer service for troubleshooting, checking the status of your order, or even choosing the right water heater for you. A customer support phone line is available during business hours, whereas you can email or submit an online form at any time.

Warranty for Eemax Heaters

The warranty for Eemax water heaters is five years for leaks and one year for parts. It is a limited warranty, meaning you will not receive the warranty if the problem is due to damage caused by misuse, alteration, or negligence or if the heater was exposed to fire, freezing, floods, or another type of natural disaster.

Furthermore, the water heater must have been installed according to the standards set out in both your building’s code and the manufacturer’s instructions. You also void your warranty if you move the water heater after its initial installation.

Finally, Eemax will not honor your warranty if the water heater was exposed to conditions that caused the heater to turn on before it purged itself of air or if it suffered from water pressure or flow interruptions.

Installing Eemax Water Heaters

Once you have removed your current water heater, installing your new Eemax heater is easy. The heater comes with an electrical cord and it just need a side water connection to run. Due to a lack of venting, the process is particularly fast.

The exception is if you need to change your home to meet the requirements for a higher voltage. In this case, you’ll need a professional to rework your home. In any case, you should hire a professional to carry out the installation. This will ensure that the wiring is set up correctly and will maintain your warranty.

This may sound like a lot of effort but, once the heater is set up, you’ll find it much more comfortable than continuing to rely on a tank water heater — and your utility bills will be much lower.

Eemax Tankless Water Heater Repair and Maintenance

Eemax water heaters rarely run into trouble or need serious repairs. A dedicated technical support team is available to help customers identify common minor problems. They will even walk you through the steps to correct the issue yourself — to avoid the need to contact a technician. Even if you need to change parts of the water heater, it is often easy to carry out the work yourself.

Many maintenance issues in water heaters are caused by hard water, which leads to calcification or a buildup of lime. This is not a problem with Eemax water heaters, as the units keep themselves clean. A patented water flow system removes particles from the heating elements at all times, including when the unit is heating water. As well as reducing maintenance for you, this increases the durability and lifespan of the heating elements.

In fact, this technology leads to a longer lifespan for the entire water heater. All Eemax water heaters are tested to last at least 10 years, which is more than the industry standard for testing. Many customers find that their Eemax is still running without problems after more than 20 years.

HomeAdvantage II Series

There are several tankless water heaters in the HomeAdvantage II range, but five stand out as the best choices.

HA036240

HA036240

One of the most powerful water heaters from Eemax, the HA036240 offers 7.5 GPM — enough for three showers at the same time or two showers and about one other appliance. In other words, the HA036240 is sufficient for any average-size home.

Using a copper heat exchanger with a brass top, the HA036240 offers maximum energy efficiency. Equally, its usability is great. The digital display combined with a control knob makes it simple to set the heater to the temperature you want. You can set it to any temperature between 80 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Even if you set the heater to a high temperature, there is a very low risk of burns, due to the scald prevention system and micro-processing temperature control.

Far smaller than a tank water heater and more compact than a gas tankless heater of similar capacity, you’ll be able to install the HA036240 just about anywhere. If you choose a place where the heater is easily accessible, you’ll be able to replace any worn-out heating elements yourself, without needing to call an HVAC technician.

HA027240

HA027240

Another reasonably powerful model from Eemax is the HA027240. With 6.0 GPM, you’ll receive enough water for about two bathrooms — perfect, again, for an average-size home.

The HA027240 gives you everything you need and nothing more. For instance, you can set any temperature you want, but there are no additional features on the control panel to make the operation confusing. The design is much like other models in the HomeAdvantage II series: a solid square that fits close to the wall. It is a great choice if you are looking for a reasonably-powerful heater and you’d rather save space, but you’d prefer not to bother with the venting required for an indoor gas heater.

HA024240

HA024240

Although smaller in size than the HA027240, the HA024240 offers the same flow rate of 6.0 GPM. This is because it runs on 24 kilowatts rather than 27 kilowatts. Other than that, there are no differences. The HA027240 can reach the same temperature as the HA024240 and it has the same type of copper heat exchanger with a brass top to increase the response rate when you turn on a faucet.

Put simply, the two units are almost identical; only the HA024240 is slightly less powerful. The benefit of this model is that it will fit in a smaller space. The downside is that the water will take a little longer to heat up. To pick between the two, you’ll need to decide what better suits your needs.

HA011240

Eemax HA013240

With a GPM of 3.0, the HA011240 is unlikely to be powerful enough to supply your entire home with hot water, unless you live in a studio apartment. It is more useful as a point-of-use heater installed near the water source, such as by the showerhead, in the laundry room, or under the kitchen sink. Alternatively, you can link the HA011240 to a larger water heater to increase its flow rate.

In fact, the HA011240 is one of the smallest water heaters you’ll find on the market. This makes it ideal for homes that have limited space but still require reliable hot water. Although it is compact, this model has all the technological capabilities of the other models from Eemax. It also has the brass top on a copper heater for a fast response, meaning you’ll never need to wait long for water to heat up.

HA013240

Eemax HA013240

Another model with a GPM of 3.0 is the HA013240. It is able to offer sufficient hot water for a single shower or another appliance, provided that the temperature rise you need is not too high. In the coldest climates, it is fine for a low-flow shower.

The difference between the HA013240 and the HA011240 is, once again, power. The HA013240 is more powerful (running on 13 kilowatts of power compared to 11 kilowatts). This means you’ll gain hot water slightly sooner with this model.
